Luke 18:3-5. “and there was a widow in that city; and she came oft unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest she wear me out by her continual coming”

Purpose driven prayer can only be achieved by the seal and power of the Spirit. When a man or woman has a deep need, the burden and longing will not go away. It is ever there the need ever cries out to be met. The Spirit of God moves and we must respond.
Jesus speaks of two parables about persistent prayer. The one in Luke 18:1 is of a reluctant and unkind godless judge, by which the woman a widow obtains mercy by nothing else than shear persistence and tenacity.
The parable here in Luke 11 is of a kind friend. We can liken this parable to the friendship that we have with our Lord Jesus.
The Lord teaches us here of the need of two things (1). A definite unmovable and unshakable longing for some particular thing to be met, whether a deep longing of the heart or a real need. (2). He also teaches us that unless that deep longing is produced by Him, then the one asking will give up in a short while, why? Because the need or desire wasn’t really deep enough to produce purpose driven prayer.
People tend to pray for things when they are only in pain, and for example a spouse. But when the hurt is not there, they are quite happy to leave off asking.
God wants to see people who pray day after day whether in deep hurt or peaceful times.
The friend had a need and that was food. He knew where to go for it, his friend. We know where to go and we have a Friend in Jesus.
Now it gets tougher. The friend says DON’T BOTHER ME! But the man doesn’t give up, why? Because it is a REAL need to his heart.
Next the friend says THE DOOR IS LOCKED! Another discouragement but he keeps asking.

God may appear to say DON’T BOTHER ME the DOOR is LOCKED GO AWAY. What we do. Give up? Crushed by heart ache and rejection do we give up?
No, why? Because our need or longing is too great, we have the unction the purpose driven desire in prayer by the Spirit of God.
God wants to give us what we long for, but He wants us to crave for it, and pray for it. He wants to teach us to pray and draw close to Him through this desire and need.
My friend if you have a deep desire for a spouse or whatever else it may be, if the desire is of God He will give you the power to keep asking until you rejoice with all your heart together with the Giver. Be assured that according to Gods word, ASK and it SHALL be given to you.
